At Regis, it’s not just about where you work, it’s about how it makes you feel. For Janet Trunfio, Lifestyle Coordinator at our Greenmount Home, the journey has been one of passion, growth and meaningful connection.
Starting as a Carer at Regis Ontario in Victoria back in 2009, Janet’s path has taken her through several roles, from Physio Assistant to Lifestyle Assistant, before settling into her current role in Western Australia. Each step of the way, she’s been supported by leaders and teammates who recognised her potential and helped her grow.
“I just love coming to see the residents and putting a smile on their faces,” Janet says. “I always come to work with a smile, and just saying ‘good morning’ makes me feel good.”
One moment in particular stands out to Janet as a reminder of why her work matters so deeply.
“We recently held an art exhibition showcasing all the wonderful work from our residents. One resident, with the help of our Resident Companion, built a model aeroplane. On the day, we managed to get him into a wheelchair so he could see it on display. He was thrilled. We made sure to capture plenty of photos. It’s moments like that which make coming to work so worthwhile.”
Over the years, Janet has embraced opportunities to grow.
“With the support of my General Manager, I’ve learned so much and taken on new challenges. It’s motivating to know that people believe in you and want to see you succeed.”
The culture at Greenmount is what makes it special.
“It feels more like family. Everyone looks out for each other, and there’s always someone to turn to for advice or guidance. Getting positive feedback from the team makes you feel truly valued.”
Janet’s advice to anyone thinking about joining aged care is simple but heartfelt:
“You must love what you do. Be prepared to learn and embrace all things new and challenging. Working in aged care is definitely hard, but also extremely rewarding. When you know that you’ve brightened someone’s day, it makes it all worthwhile.”
