Evandro has been an Assistant in Nursing at Regis Lutwyche for almost two years and is an integral part of the team.
For Evandro, every day at Regis is an opportunity to restore independence and dignity to residents and that’s what keeps him coming back with purpose and pride in his role.
“Seeing a resident smile because they feel empowered again is when I know I’m doing something right. It’s about helping them live better, with joy and confidence.”
One moment that deeply touched Evandro was helping a couple reconnect during a difficult time. When one partner was unwell, he found a way for them to see each other for a short amount of time.
“She was missing her husband. I helped her see him from a distance, and they exchanged smiles and love. It melted my heart. I know that moment brought them peace.”
Evandro feels supported at Regis through open communication and collaboration in his team. Being part of discussions about care improvements makes him feel valued and involved.
“We talk about how to do better, and that makes me feel part of the care, not just someone delivering it. It motivates me to keep growing and helping other employees,” he said.
What makes him proud to work at Regis is the diversity and professionalism of the team.
“I work with people from all over the world, and we all bring something unique. It’s amazing to see residents receiving care that’s thoughtful, respectful and professional.”
He has always felt valued in his role, and says that being heard and included encourages him to always do his best to provide care for the residents.
“When we share ideas and feel listened to, it shows we’re aligned with Regis’ culture and vision. That’s what drives us to give our best every day.”
His advice to others is to enjoy your role and encourages people who may be considering aged care to apply.
“Make residents laugh, be light-hearted, and try different approaches to help them reach their goals. You’ll hear incredible stories and that connection makes you more compassionate.”
