With AFL Grand Final week in full swing, more than 175 Aged Care residents and Home Care clients from around Victoria came together at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the annual Regis AFL Luncheon – part of the popular Inter-Home Community Events program.
Hosted in the Jack Ryder Room overlooking the hallowed turf, the luncheon was filled with football memories, fine dining, and plenty of laughter as residents swapped stories and celebrated the game that is such a big part of Melbourne life.
“It’s a great opportunity to come together and enjoy each other’s company from our Regis Homes across Victoria, in the most iconic spot, the MCG. We’re having a beautiful lunch together and it’s a really great opportunity for the residents, some of which haven’t been to the MCG before, to meet and have a lunch with friends.” said Kate Whyman, Regional General Manager.
This year’s event followed on from last year’s hugely successful luncheon. The 2025 event brought new excitement, with guest speaker, former Melbourne footballer Rod Grinter, and a special appearance by Sally Freeman, Regis Board Member and Melbourne Football Club Director. Sally delighted residents by bringing along both the 2021 AFL and 2022 AFLW Premiership Cups, which quickly became the centrepiece for photos and plenty of proud smiles.
