Delano, General Manager at Regis Sippy Downs, began his Regis journey four years ago. He says every day is different and requires him to think on his feet, staying adaptable to all situations.
His favourite part of the role is the people. “I love being able to work together with such a special group of individuals. Having the opportunity to make a meaningful difference and to be part of an environment where an entire community feels safe, respected and valued is very fulfilling.”
This is also reflected in his pride for his team. Delano says these moments of pride are “countless” and, “often in the quick comments and small moments in our everyday.”
Delano has worked hard with his team to create a positive culture, one that uplifts each other and celebrates these small wins. Something that sticks out to him as representative of this culture is the Home’s tradition when a resident passes away.
“Our team lines up at the reception entrance to set up a guard of honour. It is a very special and emotional moment for staff and family when our team honours and acknowledges the individual resident and their family for the special impact they have had at our home.”
Delano is powered by his team and considers working alongside a diverse range of people a privilege. He says they are united in their, “shared aim of making a meaningful impact to an entire community.”
Whilst the journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing, Delano credits his success to the leaders he has been surrounded by. “These leaders have always made me feel supported to be authentic. I have always felt comfortable asking for advice and guidance whenever support is needed.”
To those considering working in aged care, Delano says simply, “Come in with a smile, and be intentional about making a difference.”
