Balloons, cake and champagne; this was the scene at Regis Shenley Manor yesterday, as residents, family, friends and employees gathered to celebrate Alicia Simonson’s 100th birthday.

The Home was beautifully decorated for the event, with pink flowers brightening the walls. The birthday party began with a photo slideshow of memories from Alicia’s life, whilst her daughter Jillian shared stories. There were lots of tennis pictures, as Alicia was a keen player all her life. When Alicia wasn’t playing tennis, she spent her weekends at the races. She was always dressed up and cheering on the race – sometimes even for her father, who was a well-known jockey.

After the slideshow, it was time for a well-deserved slice of cake. Alicia blew out her birthday candles for the 100th time and everyone cheered. Jillian read out Alicia’s letters from the King, congratulating Alicia on her century of life.

Lifestyle Coordinator Angela then led a ‘100 years ago’ themed trivia – who knew a loaf of bread used to cost just 10 cents!

It was a heartwarming afternoon and Alicia’s daughters thanked the team at Regis Shenley Manor for their support. “This place has a lovely vibe, a lovely feeling and that’s a credit to the employees who always have a smile on their face,” Jane said.

Happy 100th birthday, Alicia!
