The Easter weekend and the weeks leading up to it are a special time in our homes. Colourful decorations, parties and no shortage of good food.
At Regis Ferny Grove, residents celebrated with their neighbouring kindergarten. Having scheduled visits once a month, the kids were overjoyed to see their resident friends again for games, an Easter egg hunt and a visit from the Easter Bunny.
At Regis Aspley, Easter was celebrated with a familiar favourite, the hot cross bun. Residents and employees got their hands dirty mixing, kneading and baking. After the buns were cooked, everyone sat back to enjoy them with a cup of tea and good company.
At Regis Kuluin, residents celebrated with the time-honoured tradition of Easter bonnet making and of course, a parade. Resident Fay shared, “I had so much fun making the hats together, helping others and then seeing us all together for our parade.”
It wasn’t just Fay and her fellow residents in Easter dress ups, as therapy dog Sasha donned bunny ears and led the parade through the Home.
Regis Kuluin’s Lifestyle Coordinator, Dee reflected on the atmosphere when she said, “it all just felt very special, the residents walking through with their hats and everyone clapping and cheering them as they walked past.”
At Regis Kingswood, residents were making and decorating Easter eggs. These were no ordinary eggs, as residents got creative making treats ranging from white chocolate with lemon curd, to dark chocolate and caramel, to eggs filled with mini marshmallows.
Regis Birkdale and Regis Yeronga came together for Holy Week celebrations, as residents from the neighbouring homes reconnected with each other over an Easter high tea. After a relaxed start to the celebrations, the two homes had a visit from a dancing Easter bunny performer.
Resident Lorraine said the silly, light-hearted show had them all laughing with childlike joy. “It’s not often you get to dance with a rabbit before lunch,” she said, “but today, I think we all felt like kids again.”
Happy Easter to those who celebrate!
