South-East Queensland homes Regis Aspley and Regis Lodges on George recently went head-to-head in their first bowling competition. It was a fantastic day for some residents to reconnect with a hobby they enjoyed before moving into aged care, and for others to try something new.
There was plenty of friendly rivalry as the two teams assembled at the bowling alley, to see who would take out the top spot.
After a close competition, in the end, it was team Regis Aspley who took out the win. Resident Mike played a key role, scoring an impressive 70 for team Regis Aspley. “I really enjoyed the ten-pin bowling,” he said, “it was even better that Regis Aspley won the day!”
Activities like bowling serve a dual purpose, giving residents the social benefits of connecting with others and the physical benefits of exercise. Friendly competition between homes can also give residents a great sense of purpose. As Phil from Regis Lodges on George shared, “I was proud of my bowling efforts, thank you for a fun morning.”
Inter-home events are always a highlight in the calendar for residents and Regis teams. For Vivienne, a resident at Regis Aspley, the highlight was meeting new people from the nearby Home. “That was a wonderful morning,” she said, “I liked meeting the residents from Regis Lodges on George.”
Regis Aspley Lifestyle Coordinator Cathy said the bowling enthusiasts at her Home are, “already looking forward to the next match,” and it won’t be long before the two homes reconnect for another shared activity.
