For Beth, home is more than a place to live, it’s where she feels safest and most herself. Living on the Gold Coast with her husband, Beth values the independence, familiarity and connection that come with remaining in her own home and community.

With Support at Home services provided by Regis Home Care, Beth has been able to continue living life on her terms, while receiving the help she needs with everyday tasks around the home.

Over the years, Beth has experienced different types of support but says consistency has made the biggest difference. Having the same home support worker each week has created a sense of trust and familiarity that gives her peace of mind.

“It’s just wonderful to be at home and still be able to operate,” Beth said.

Beth receives regular support each week with everyday tasks such as shopping and maintaining the home, allowing her to spend more time doing the things she enjoys, including staying active in the community and taking part in social activities.

“It’s made a great difference to me because I have time to do the other things that I’d like to do,” she said.

For the past four years, Beth has been supported by home care worker Kerry, with the pair forming a relationship that has grown far beyond routine assistance.

“We became friends,” Beth said. “I couldn’t ask for anyone better.”

Kerry said the connection they have built is one of the most rewarding parts of her role.

“It is such a beautiful relationship we have formed,” Kerry said. “It’s just like a mother-and-daughter sort of thing, or friends. We’re interested in each other’s lives”.

That continuity means Beth does not need to repeatedly explain her preferences or worry about how things will be done. Instead, she feels supported by someone who really knows her.

The support has also brought reassurance to Beth’s family, knowing she is well looked after while continuing to live independently in the place she calls home.

Support at Home is designed to help older people continue living safely and independently, while staying connected to the people, routines and places that matter most to them.
