Residents at Regis Playford in South Australia put a new spin on one of their most popular activities recently, welcoming local drag queen Fifi Fierce to host a special bingo session.
The idea came from residents themselves, who were looking for a fun new way to enjoy one of the Home’s most popular activities.
From the moment Fifi arrived, the room lifted. Residents filled the lounge room ready to play including a number of newcomers drawn in by the fun and excitement of the occasion.
As the numbers were called, Fifi kept the room on their toes with jokes and quick comebacks. Residents gave it straight back, calling out across the room, laughing and backing themselves in each round.
There was just as much activity between rounds of bingo, with conversations, cheeky comments and plenty of back and forth that carried through the afternoon.
Fifi’s glittering dress, jewellery and high heels quickly became a talking point, with one question raised again and again. How does she wear those heels?
“Those shoes, that dress, her hair, that ring, I mean, isn’t she just beautiful?” said resident Julienne.
At Regis Playford, residents play an active role in shaping life in the Home. Whether it’s suggesting a new activity, revisiting an old favourite or trying something completely unexpected, their ideas help create experiences that reflect the people who live there. Events like this are a reminder that meaningful care starts with listening and supporting residents to continue enjoying the things that make them laugh, connect and feel like themselves.
