We have recently celebrated the recognition of one of our Regis Kuluin residents, Brian Kelly, who received the Medal of the Order of Australia. At 95 years old, Brian has dedicated his life to serving the community of Tocumwal, NSW, and his outstanding contributions have been acknowledged by the Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM.

In a special ceremony held at Regis Kuluin on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Brian was presented with the prestigious award for his remarkable service to the community. Brian’s efforts and dedication to his hometown of Tocumwal have left a significant impact on the town’s tourism industry.

Brian’s tireless work promoting Tocumwal as a top tourist destination helped put the town on the map. His efforts to create free campsites along the Murray River, which runs through Tocumwal, and advertise the town as a destination for fishing, boating, and great local food, have helped boost tourism in the area. Brian served for 40 years with the Chamber of Commerce and played a pivotal role in its success.

Aside from his work promoting tourism, Brian also served as a volunteer firefighter for 42 years. His unwavering dedication and commitment to the community are a testament to his character and his love for his hometown.

Brian’s service to the community began at a young age. He started working at the local pub owned by his parents when he was just 18 years old. He worked there for an incredible 62 years alongside his wife Lillian, who he married during this time. Brian’s commitment to the town and its people is truly remarkable.

While Brian has only recently become a resident of Regis Kuluin, he has been visiting his wife Lillian, who is also a resident at the home, every day since she settled in. Brian’s devotion to his wife of 74 years is a true testament to the kind of person he is.

At Regis, we are proud to have residents like Brian, who have made significant contributions to their communities. We believe in celebrating their achievements and providing a supportive environment where they can continue to live their lives to the fullest. Brian is an inspiration to us all, and we are honoured to have him as a resident at Regis Kuluin.
