An art exhibition organised by residents and employees at Regis The Gap is showcasing a diverse range of art created by talented seniors.

The art gallery is a permanent feature of The Gap and it regularly displays the residents’ new artworks.

Regis The Gap General Manager Trevor Kemp said the exhibition does more than celebrate the rich and diverse lives of the resident artists.

“It also challenges the perception of ageing and honours the value, contribution and experience of older people in the community,” Trevor said.

“Our residents enjoy expressing themselves creatively through the initiative.

“The gallery is a great creative outlet for them and it provides an opportunity to show off the pieces they have been working on.”

Residents Betty Jessop and Joan Driscoll are this season’s featured artists in the Home and are displaying pieces focused on flora and fauna.

“I studied art at school however haven’t done any painting since before coming to Regis,” Joan said. “My dad was always sketching and did this as a hobby — he was very good at it and it always fascinated me.

“Art gives me a lot of pleasure and I go into another world which is peaceful.”

Betty has a special affinity with animals and has always had cats and dogs living with her. Her love for animals inspires her creativity on this strong connection.

“I’ve painted for many years over my life and would always talk about art with my husband,” Betty said. “Painting makes me feel good. It somehow relieves me.”
