When George Duggan moved into Regis Magnolia in south-east Queensland, he didn’t leave his active lifestyle behind. Instead, he’s found new ways to stay engaged, keep moving and enjoy the things that have always mattered to him, with a few new experiences along the way.

While it was George’s daughter who found Regis Magnolia, George claims she couldn’t have chosen better.

“If I’d have picked it myself, I’d have picked exactly the same spot,” George says. “There’s always a joke to be had.”

Before retiring, George was a manager of Carlton United Brewery in Sydney. He coordinated teams and ensured the smooth operation of brewing some of Australia’s most iconic beer. Never one to sit idle, alongside this, George raised two children with his wife, Midge, and competed in triathlons.

George laughs that he was, “conned into doing” the long-distance events by friends, but ended up enjoying them and having a lot of success in the sport. He competed at home in New South Wales and abroad including competing in grueling 226km Iron Man races in New Zealand and Hawaii.

Now, living in aged care, George maintains his busy and active lifestyle in other ways.

Always front of the line for community outings, George fondly remembers the first trip he went on to scenic Paradise Point, joking with new friends by the beach. He also recalls a sunny afternoon spent among alpacas at a local farm, and the fun of playing bowls on the green at the Helensvale Bowls Club.

George is a treasured member of the Regis Magnolia community, and while the setting may have changed, George’s approach to life hasn’t — staying active, connected and always ready for a laugh.
