Alex Serviano is one of our most recent recruits to join our Regis family. Alex commenced in April 2021 as a Lifestyle Assistant at Regis Sandgate Musgrave in Queensland. Since his arrival, our residents have bonded with him, and are loving our new addition to the team.

Alex expressed that “it’s a very rewarding feeling when you are able to give happiness and joy to the residents.”

On a regular day, Alex starts his shift off by assisting our residents to the activity room after their morning tea so that they can kick-start their day. As a lover of music, you can often hear some retro tunes and funky beats being played by Alex to help encourage those in his care participate in activities. After helping with lunch service, afternoon activities begin which often involve a visiting entertainer or happy hour with music.

“Working with the elderly is such an amazing experience. It also gives you the opportunity to meet a wide variety of older people and make a tremendous difference in their quality of life,” said Alex. He shared with us that he loves the comradery that exists with his colleagues – everyone does their part.

When asked what advice he can give to those wanting a career in aged care, Alex said you need to have a great attitude and be respectful. “You set the tone and culture of your workplace, so you need to be passionate about what you do.”

Outside of work, Alex loves travelling across Australia and Asia. It helps open his mind to new experiences and cultures, and understand that there is no one way to live life. He shared that “you will meet different people from different places and see what makes each place unique.”

When asked what home means to him, he told us that home is my comfort zone and my safe haven. It’s a place where we can truly just be ourselves and a place that one loves to live.”
