International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a global observance that promotes inclusion, accessibility and equal rights for people with disabilities. It is a day to recognise achievements, challenge misconceptions and celebrate individuality.
For Desmond, one of our Home Care clients, this day is deeply meaningful. “It shows everybody that just because someone is physically disabled it doesn’t mean we’re different. We’re all people,” he says. “We want to have friends, go places and do the things many people take for granted.”
Desmond shows us that disability doesn’t define who you are or stop you from enjoying the things you love. For him, that’s music.
Music has been a constant in Desmond’s life since childhood. “My dad gave me my first stereo when I was five and that started everything,” he recalls. “I’ve been listening to music ever since. It’s something that makes me happy every day.” His collection reflects his love for sound and variety, from classic rock to orchestral pieces. For Desmond, music is a way to connect, to feel joy and to express individuality.
Our Home Care plays an important role in helping Desmond keep doing what he loves. With the right support, he can stay independent and enjoy his music in the comfort of his own home. Whether it is help with shopping, transport or simply sharing a conversation, our team is here to make life easier and more enjoyable.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a chance to listen, learn and celebrate what makes each person unique. When every voice is heard, life becomes richer and more connected.
Today, let’s recognise the diversity that makes our Regis community stronger and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity and joy.
