Regis Sandgate Musgrave in Brisbane has recently launched a new initiative, the Regis Musgrave Baking Group, which brings residents and team members together to give back to the local community.

The idea for the group grew from a casual conversation between the Lifestyle team and residents during a baking activity. While chatting, several residents reflected on volunteering initiatives they had been involved in previously. Resident Lorraine fondly recalled her time volunteering with Meals on Wheels, sharing how much she enjoyed supporting others in the community.

Inspired by these memories, the team formalised the baking group, creating an opportunity for residents and employees to bake a range of treats to donate. The group has since partnered with Sandbag, a local Sandgate‑based community organisation that supports people across North Brisbane and surrounding areas.

Lorraine says she is thrilled to continue her passion for volunteering while living in aged care. “I am proud to be part of the baking group,” she shared. “I love knowing I can continue contributing to the community and helping others.”

Fellow resident Annie, who also volunteered with Meals on Wheels in the past, said the baking group reminded her of those purposeful times. “Joining the baking group has brought back many cherished memories from my volunteering days,” she said.

Recently, the Regis Musgrave bakers visited the Sandbag office to personally deliver their freshly baked goods. The Home’s Lifestyle Coordinator, Cathy Frith, said the experience left everyone with “big smiles and a strong sense of purpose.” She added that residents were delighted to know their homemade treats would help spread happiness to those supported by the organisation.
