Meet Clare West, the Lifestyle Coordinator at Regis Como in Western Australia. Clare worked as an Activities Coordinator in aged care for 7 years in England, and only two weeks after landing in Perth picked up her role within the community and hasn’t stopped since.

When asked what sparked her interest in working within the sector, Clare reiterated “I love it and have always been very passionate about the work that I do.” Clare is motivated by supporting people transition into aged care, and said “if I can make the experience better for them, make them feel safer, happier and make life enjoyable for them, then that’s what I’ll do.”

A typical day for Clare is a busy one, ensuring calendars are planned and organised, and that she’s covering everything from exercise and fitness, to mental health and cognition. Clare shared with us how the Lifestyle team enriches our residents’ lives, making a difference by personally knowing their wants and needs, and supporting them in the best ways possible. Her team recognise and support residents and family members alike, curating events for the entire Regis Como community to benefit from and enjoy.

Clare expressed she loves her job and what she does, and works hard because she “wants to be able to make things happen,” especially when it’s things residents have never done before or haven’t done in years. Outside of work, Clare enjoys getting outdoors for walks, going to the beach and being out exploring.

When asked for advice to others considering a career in aged care, Clare revealed she always recommends people to come and work in aged care; “it is one of the most rewarding jobs that I have ever done.”
